ASTM D6470 - Salt in Crude Oils - Potentiometric Method

 

We perform crude oil quality testing by ASTM D6470 to measure the salt content in crude oils. This test applies to almost all of the heavier petroleum products, including crude oils, residues, and fuel oils. It can also be used to estimate seawater contamination in used turbine oil and marine diesel fuel. Excessive salt, especially in crude oil, frequently results in higher corrosion rates in refining units.
