ASTM D3278 - Flash Point of Liquids by Small Scale Closed-Cup Apparatus
We perform testing by ASTM D3278 to determine whether paints, enamels, lacquers, varnishes, and related products flash (ignite) at a specified temperature. This test method covers procedures for determining wheather a material does or does not flash at a specified temperature or for determining the lowest finite temperature at which a material does flash when using a small scale closed-cup apparatus. This method is applicable to paints, enamels, lacquers, varnishes, and other related products. The flash point is used by governmental regulatory agencies and may also be used to determine the presence of impurities or contaminants in a given liquid.
